Rosa Clementina Petherick

Rosa Clementina Petherick (1871-1931)

She was a successful English illustrator of many picture books like: Toy Trains, Toy Boats, Ships and Soldiers, ABC Christmas and others. Rosa C. Petherick was very popular in the beginning of the 20th century and here is beautiful example:

Her work is still popular among designers on Zazzle and similar on-line stores but unfortunately her ebooks are not anywhere to be found at the moment. Until I can offer something better, I can give you only few more interesting facts about her life and work:

- Rosa was the first of five daughters by painter and illustrator Horace William Petherick (1839-1919),

- her style gradually changed from classic Victorian to much more lively and humorous, similar to John Hassall's (1868-1948) posters,

- Rosa's most popular works are made with clear, simple colors, characters outlined with black lines and she also made several etchings (some being exhibited in National Portrait Gallery).
