Virginia Frances Sterrett

Virginia Frances Sterrett got about one year of formal education, illustrated only three books but her illustrations still made important position in the world of children literature.

The one presented above is from Old French Fairy Tales, book she got just about the same time when Virginia Sterrett was diagnosed with tuberculosis. She was only 19 years old and she already knew she will probably not live for very long time.

She illustrated Old French Fairy Tales (written by Comtess de Segur) and in next year also the book Tanglewood Tales (written by Nathaniel Hawthorne), some kind of sequel to The Wonder Book, kind of Greek Mythology for kids.

Then her health started getting worse and she needed a long break. After that she managed to finish only one more huge project (I am talking about books) and this is illustrating the book of Arabian Nights. It took her three years but experts think of it as her masterpiece.
