Paul Meyerheim

Paul Friedrich Meyerheim (1842-1915)

This talented artist had painting in his genes. His father, uncle and older brothers were painters too.

This is of course illustration from the Frog Prince (Frog King), one of signature fairy tales by brothers Grimm:

He started studying painting in his homeland Germany, then in Switzerland, Belgium, Holland and France. Paul Meyerheim had a lot of powerful family connections and was regular guest of Prince Frederick William, who later became Emperor Frederick III.

His favorite subjects in paintings were animals, as we can see in this illustration for Frog Prince too. Apart from that he made a lot of portraits and scenes from everyday life. His probably most famous work is titled Life Story of Locomotive - seven plates of copper with scenes from manufacturing the machine in about 350 x 270 cm dimension and theme which was in 19 century certainly intriguing enough to be a central object of an art show.
