Oskar Herrfurth (1862-1934)
Oskar Herrfurth was German painter and illustrator who is probably most famous by his illustrations from famous genre books like Adventures of Baron Munchausen, several book written by Karl May and of course fairy tales.
Oskar Herrfurth illustrated well known fairy tales written by Ludwig Bechstein, Hans Christian Andersen and - what else - Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Here is one of beautiful illustrations from the fairy tale Bremen Town Musicians, made for series of postcards:
Herrfurth was born in Merseburg, got formal education in Art School in Wiemar, where he lived most of his life (for some time he lived and worked in Hamburg), where he also died.
Postcards, like the one with Bremen Town Musicians above were very popular in first decades of 20th century. The illustration presented is only one from the series of six.
