Andre Castaigne

Andre Castaigne (1861-1929) was French painter and illustrator. He was a son of a painter and brother of a poet. He exhibited great talent from early ages and got several prestigious awards for his paintings.

Andre Castaigne spent a lot of time abroad traveling and he was even a director of art school in Baltimore for several years. In his best year the technology of illustration changed from engraving and lithography to photogravure. I suppose next illustration of Goose Girl from Grimms' collection is beautiful evidence of new technology:

Andre Castaigne was awarded by president of France with Red Ribbon (Legion of Honour) and died because of complications after suffering from hernia.
