Howard Pyle

Howard Pyle (1853-1911) was one of most influential illustrators of all times. He became famous thanks for historic novels he wrote and illustrated but own immortality to his teaching skills. He was giving lectures on Drexel Institute of Art (today Drexel University) in Philadelphia and soon after at his own school in Wilmington, where he thought many famous American illustrators.

How famous was he is probably best show with a fact among his admirers was Vincent van Gogh too!

Pyle also illustrated books about pirates and his most known work is about Robin Hood, where he changed original ballads on which his stories were build and many historical facts to achieve optimistic messages he wanted. Of course he illustrated many books for younger kids too.

He was married with a singer Anne Poole and they had seven children together. Howard Pyle died in Italy after kidney infection.
