Frederick Richardson

Frederick Richardson (1862-1937) was American illustrator from Chicago who's work was heavily influienced by Art Nouveau style. He illustrated many classic fables, fairy tales and nursery rhymes: Mother Goose, fairy tales of H. C. Amndersen, Aesop's Fables...

For this occasion I present his illustration from Pinocchio:

If you are familiar only with Disney's version of this fairy tale, this scene will probably look strange, but it is actually very faithful to the original work by Carlo Collodi.

I can also add Frederick Richardson collaborated at several volumes of fairy tales collections by Andrew Lang and Frank Baum's Wizzard of Oz. Later is probably his most famous work for children.

Another Richardson's speciality was ability to imitate different styles of famous painters like Van Gogh and Gaugin. Pretty interesting guy, huh?
